Baniszewski encouraged neighborhood children to torment Likens, including extinguishing cigarettes on her skin and forcing her to remove her clothes and insert a glass Coca-Cola bottle into her vagina on at least two occasions. Shortly before Likens died Baniszewski began to carve the words "I'm a prostitute and proud of it!" into Likens' stomach with a heated needle.

Cecelia Ann Shepard is stabbed by unidentified serial killer the Zodiac Killer at the age of 22 in Lake Berryessa, Napa, California, United States.

Shepard died as a result of her injuries two days later. Her 20-year-old date Bryan Calvin Hartnell survived eight stab wounds to the back.
