Allen's last meal consisted of Buffalo steak and frybread as well as a bucket of KFC white-meat-only chicken, sugar-free pecan pie, sugar-free walnut ice cream and whole milk. The ice-cream was left out to thaw for one hour, which he turned into a milkshake by hand.

Writer Franz Kafka dies of laryngeal tuberculosis at the age of 41 in Sanatorium Hoffmann, Hauptstraße 187, Kierling, Niederösterreich, Austria. Kafka's cause of death seemed to be starvation: the condition of his throat made eating too painful for him, and since parenteral nutrition had not yet been developed, there was no way to feed him.
