Indian nationalist leader Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi aka The Apostle of Non-violence is assassinated by 38-year-old extremist Hindu Nathuram Godse at the age of 79 in Birla House, New Delhi, Delhi, India. Gandhi was on his way to address a prayer meeting when his assassin fired three bullets from a Beretta 9mm 1934 semi-automatic pistol into his chest at point-blank range.
