King Leopold was driving their Packard One-Twenty convertible and Queen Astrid looking at a map. As the Queen pointed out something to her husband the car went off the road down a steep slope and slammed into a pear tree. Queen Astrid had opened her door to try to get out but she was thrown out upon impact. Her body collided with the trunk of the tree while the car slammed into a second tree. King Leopold was thrown out of the car as well but he was only lightly injured.

Actor Ramon Novarro born as José Ramón Gil Samaniego aka Latin Lover is murdered by 22-year-old Paul and 17-year-old Tom Ferguson at the age of 69 in Laurel Canyon, Hollywood, California, United States. Novarro had hired the Ferguson brothers from an agency to come to his home for sex but the two young men believed that a large sum of money was hidden in Novarro's house. Novarro died as a result of asphyxiation - having choked to death on his own blood after being beaten. Some say Novarro had in fact been suffocated with a lead dildo given to him 45 years earlier by Rudolph Valentino.
