Wise fatally shot 56-year-old Charles Griffeth, 30-year-old David Wayne Moore, 31-year-old Ernest Leonard Filyaw and 27-year-old Esther Sheryl Wood. After Wise reached the upper floor of the plant he lay down and swallowed insecticide in a suicide attempt. He was semi-conscious when police located him.

Martin Luther King, originally Michael King is shot dead by assassin James Earl Ray aka The Man Who Shot Martin Luther King at the age of 39 in Lorraine Motel, 450 Mulberry Street, Memphis, Tennessee, United States.

King stood on the motel's second-floor balcony when the bullet entered through his right cheek, smashing his jaw, then traveled down his spinal cord before lodging in his shoulder. After emergency chest surgery, King was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital at 7.05 pm.
