Passengers, including many gold miners were killed by being dashed against the rocks by the waves rather than drowned. Others drowned weighed down by the belts of gold they were wearing around their bodies. The survivors, 21 passengers and 18 crew members were all men, with no women or children saved.

306 Die in USS Cyclops collier disappearance in the Bermuda Triangle. The Naval History & Heritage Command has stated she "probably sank in an unexpected storm" but the ultimate cause of the ship's fate is unknown. More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Cyclops_(AC-4)
