Over five months, the ETA commando unit using the code name Txikia dug a tunnel under the street, telling the landlord that they were student sculptors to hide their true purpose. The tunnel was packed with 80 kg of explosives that had been stolen from a Government depot. Blanco's bodyguard and driver were also killed in the operation.

Hedwig Ebauer is attacked and thrown out of a train by serial killer Paul Ogorzow aka Der Schnell-Bahn Mörder at the age of 28 in Betriebsbahnhof, Rummelsburg, Berlin, Berlin, Germany.

Ebauer was then five months pregnant. Ogorzow had unsuccessfully attempted to strangle her before throwing her from the train alive. Ebauer succumbed to her injuries later that day in the hospital, never regaining consciousness.
