Finally, Genovese was found by a neighbor named Sophia Farrar who had courageously left her apartment to go to the crime scene. Genovese was taken away by ambulance and died en route to the hospital. Later investigation by police and prosecutors revealed that approximately a dozen individuals nearby had heard or observed portions of the attack, though none saw or were aware of the entire incident. Nobody came to help her and nobody called the police.

 Rapist and murderer George C. Mercer aka Tiny is executed by lethal injection at the age of 45 in Missouri State Penitentiary aka The Walls, 115 Lafayette Street, Jefferson City, Missouri, United States. Mercer became the first person to be executed in Missouri since 1965. His execution was carried out in the former gas chamber which was converted to use lethal injection. |
