Nineteen people including an unborn baby and its mother perished as the fire roared through the 50-year-old three-story structure. Thirty-six other people were injured and within 10 days six of them had died. At least nine victims were relatives of Humberto de La Torre. His uncle Mateo survived. Humberto de la Torre was arrested the following December in Texas, pleaded guilty to 25 counts of murder and in 1985 was sentenced to 625 years in prison.

24-year-old mass murderer Jeremy Bamber, originally Jeremy Paul Marsham aka The White House Farm Murderer shoots and kills his 61-year-old parents, Nevill and June, his 28-year-old sister Sheila Caffell and her 6-year-old twin sons Daniel and Nicholas. in White House Farm, Pages Lane, Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Essex, United Kingdom. Police initially believed that Sheila, diagnosed with schizophrenia, had fired the shots then turned the gun on herself.
