United Airlines Flight 93 departed Newark International Airport in New Jersey at 8:42 a.m. en route to San Francisco International Airport with a crew of seven and 37 passengers, not including four hijackers. The hijacking began at 09:28. A passenger revolt began at 09:57 after the passengers voted on whether to act. At 10:03 the plane crashed into a field near a reclaimed coal strip mine. The three other hijackers were 20-year-old Ahmed al-Haznawi, 24-year-old Ahmed al-Nami and 21-year-old Saeed al-Ghamdi.

 Philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero is assassinated by Centurion Herennius at the age of -63 in Formia, Lazio, Italy. Cicero's last words are said to have been, "There is nothing proper about what you are doing, soldier, but do try to kill me properly." On Marcus Antonius' instructions his hands, which had penned the Philippics against him, were cut off as well as his head. Marcus Antonius' wife Fulvia took Cicero's head, pulled out his tongue, and jabbed it repeatedly with her hairpin in final revenge against his power of speech. |
