All the patients, mostly depressed young women, were severely sedated and locked up behind barred windows. 30 patients were heavily burned. The fire started when a nurse, who also died in the disaster, helped escape a patient who set fire to solitary confinement room 22 and forgot to close the door.

Serial killer Bruno Lüdke dies during a medical experiment at the age of 36 in Kriminalmedizinisches Zentralinstitut der Sicherheitspolizei, Sensengasse 2, Wien, Wien, Austria. Lüdke was experimented on by consuming pure alcohol, bone marrow punctures and more. He probably died in a low pressure experiment. Some experiments on Lüdke were recorded on vinyl by psychiatrist and physician Robert Ritter.
