Zangara actually tried to assassinate 32nd president of the USA Franklin Roosevelt. At the critical moment Lilian Cross, a woman standing near Zangara, hit Zangara's arm with her purse and spoiled his aim. Cermak died of his wounds at Jackson Memorial Hospital on 6 March.

Nadine Mauriot is shot and stabbed to death by unidentified serial killer Il Mostro di Firenze at the age of 36 in Scopeti, San Casciano in Val di Pesa, Toscana, Italy.

Mauriot’s left breast and pubis had been removed. Her 25-year-old lover Jean Michel Kraveichvili was killed a short distance away from the tent while trying to escape. The killer sent a taunting note, along with a piece of Mauriot's breast to state prosecutor Silvia della Monica stating that a murder had taken place and challenging local authorities to find the victims. It was the last known murder by Il Mostro.
