Tabram was stabbed 39 times in the body and neck including nine times in the throat, five in the left lung, two in the right lung, one in the heart, five in the liver, two in the spleen, and six in the stomach, also wounding her lower abdomen and genitals. Tabram's murder differs from the canonical five Jack the Ripper murders in that she was stabbed rather than slashed at the throat and abdomen, and many experts today do not connect it with the later murders because of the difference in the wound pattern.

Graduate student John Harris is injured when he opens a box left by 37-year-old mathematician and serial bomber Theodore Kaczynski aka The Unabomber in Northwestern University Technological Institute, Evanston, Illinois, United States. Harris suffered minor cuts and burns. Bomb #2 consisted of a cigar box and a pipe bomb triggered by a battery-operated filament that ignited explosive powders. The package contained a number of small finger-sized pieces of wood glued to its outer container.
