Peterson was found dead in the front seat of his car. The exhaust pipe had been bent to lead into the car's front seat in what appeared to be a suicide, but Peterson's body displayed third-degree burns on the back legs and arms, and while his flesh was burned, neither his clothing nor the front seat of the car were damaged in any way. In fact, hairs on the charred portions of the body were not even singed.

Cop killer Philip Ray Workman is executed by lethal injection at the age of 54 in Riverbend Maximum Security Institution, Nashville, Tennessee, United States.

Workman's last meal request was a large vegetarian pizza to be given to a homeless person. The prison officials denied his request and Workman refused to eat anything.
