Novarro had hired the Ferguson brothers from an agency to come to his home for sex but the two young men believed that a large sum of money was hidden in Novarro's house. Novarro died as a result of asphyxiation - having choked to death on his own blood after being beaten. Some say Novarro had in fact been suffocated with a lead dildo given to him 45 years earlier by Rudolph Valentino.

Communist revolutionary and father of the People's Republic of China Mao Zedong aka Mao Tse-Tung aka Chairman Mao dies of a heart attack at the age of 83 in Beijing, Hebei, China. Mao was rendered an invalid by a third heart attack on 5 September.
