Amundsen's team included Norwegian pilot Leif Dietrichson, French pilot René Guilbaud, and three more Frenchmen. It is believed that the plane crashed in fog in the Barents Sea and that Amundsen and his crew were killed in the crash, or died shortly afterward.

Triple child killer James Carl Lee Davis is executed by lethal injection at the age of 34 in Huntsville Prison, 815 12th Street, Huntsville, Texas, United States. Davis beat his neighbour children 15-year-old Yvette, 6-year-old Tyron and 4-year-old Tom Johnson to death with a lead pipe during a burglary of their home.
