Nineteen people including an unborn baby and its mother perished as the fire roared through the 50-year-old three-story structure. Thirty-six other people were injured and within 10 days six of them had died. At least nine victims were relatives of Humberto de La Torre. His uncle Mateo survived. Humberto de la Torre was arrested the following December in Texas, pleaded guilty to 25 counts of murder and in 1985 was sentenced to 625 years in prison. (4 September 1982)

Saturday 21st of April 1973 (-) — Mother and victim of Ed Kemper aka The Co-ed Killer Clarnell Strandberg-Kemper is bludgeoned to death and her throat slit by Edmund Kemper aka The Co-ed Killer. Kemper then decapitated his mother and engaged in irrumatio with her severed head before using it as a dart board. He also cut out her tongue and larynx and put them in the garbage disposal. The garbage disposal could not break down Clarnell's tough vocal cords and ejected the tissue back into the sink. "That seemed appropriate,"Kemper later said "as much as she'd bitched and screamed and yelled at me over so many years."

Kemper invited his mother's best friend Sally over to the house for dinner and a movie. When Hallett arrived Kemper strangled and decapitated her and spent the night with her body.
