On 3 October 1922 her lover Frederick Bywaters stabbed her husband Percy Thompson to death. When the gallows trapdoor opened and Thompson fell, the sudden impact of the noose caused her to suffer a massive haemorrhage. All women hanged in Britain after her were required to wear special knickers made of canvas which would prevent a recurrence of the massive bleeding suffered by Thompson. (9 January 1923)

Friday 24th of June 2005 (x) — Performance artist Danny Devos performs 'Le Petit Bucher de Margarete' in an exhibition by Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven aka AMVK I took off my left shoe and tied small branches and straw against my leg. I lit several candles together and let the candlewax drip over the branches and my leg until a kind of shell was formed. Then I cut loose all the ropes and left the small stake behind.
