Friday 10th of January 1930 (-) — Cop killer Edward Ives is executed by hanging Ives was escorted to the gallows with the noose tightened around his neck. A guard pulled a lever that sent a weight hurtling down a chute. The weight was supposed to pull the rope taut and the prisoner would break his neck as he fell through the trap. But Ives was too light. As the weight fell he went hurtling toward the ceiling. The rope jumped off the pulley and Ives fell to the floor gasping for breath. "You can't hang a man twice," he said. But they did. According to one witness it took three attempts. Ives was strangled for 23 minutes before he was pronounced dead. Friday 23rd of October 1942 (-) — Murderer Donald Fearn is executed by the gas chamber Fearn received his death sentence for kidnapping, raping, torturing and shooting 16-year-old high school student Alice Porter. Monday 13th of October 1997 (-) — Murderer Gary Lee Davis is executed by lethal injection Davis' last meal request was for ice cream. Shortly before his execution Davis also requested a cigarette – as a smoking ban was in place in Colorado prisons his request was denied. Davis was the only person to date to have been subject to the death penalty in Colorado since its reinstatement in 1977.
