One year before his execution while on death row, Babbitt was awarded a Purple Heart medal for the wounds he had received at the Battle of Khe Sanh, Vietnam in 1968. Babbitt refused his last meal and asked that the $50 allotted be given to homeless Vietnam veterans. (4 May 1999)

Wednesday 13th of January 1943 (-) — Allen Small dies of Spontaneous Human Combustion. The carpet beneath Small's body was scorched but there was no other sign of fire in the house. Small's pipe was unlit and on a shelf and his stove lids were all still in place.
