Peoples was in possession of a backpack that had a stolen badge and identification card belonging to an Alameda County sheriff's deputy. Missing was the deputy's .40-caliber Glock that was later found buried in a muddy field. The gun was linked to four deaths that occurred over a two-week period. A map found in Peoples' home pinpointed the known attacks as well as future targets.

Monday 14th of May 1973 (x) — Six members of the Alday family are raped, sodomised, beaten and shot dead by escaped prisoners Wayne Coleman, George Dungee and Carl and Billy Isaacs
The victims were Jerry Alday, his 25-year-old wife Mary, his father Ned, his brothers Chester and Jimmy, and uncle Aubrey. The fugitives were arrested a few days later in West Virginia.
