When 48-year-old Garland police officer Gerald Walker stopped Hittle for speeding, Hittle shot him in the chest at close range. He then proceded to Mary Goss' home, kicked in the door and opened fire, killing 39-year-old Goss, 36-year-old Richard Cook Jr. and 19-year-old Raymond Gregg. After reloading Hittle shot Goss' 4-year-old daughter Christy Condon. Hittle was on parole for killing his adoptive parents at the time of the murders. (6 December 2000)

Wednesday 29th of January 1958 (-) — Victim of Charles Starkweather aka Little Red Merle Collison is shot dead by Charles Starkweather aka Little Red. Starkweather later accused his girlfriend Caril Fugate of performing a coup-de-grace after his shotgun jammed. They were arrested when their stolen car stalled and Starkweather got hit by shattered glass from the windshield as pursuing officers chased him. Converse County Sheriff Earl Heflin said "He thought he was bleeding to death. That's why he stopped. That's the kind of yellow son of a bitch he is."
