Arregui died after nine days of interrogation. The cause of death was diagnosed as bronchial pneumonia while Arregui's body was covered with bruises and there were first and second degree burns on the soles of both feet. (13 February 1981)

Friday 18th of July 1969 (-) — Political campaign specialist for Robert F. Kennedy Mary Jo Kopechne dies in a submerged 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 driven off a narrow unlit bridge without guardrails by Ted Kennedy.. Kennedy extricated himself from the vehicle and survived but Kopechne did not. Kennedy failed to report the incident to the authorities until the car and Kopechne's body were discovered the next morning. A week after the incident Kennedy pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury and received a two-month suspended sentence.
