Tuesday 19th of September 1978 (-) — Evangelical priest Rolf Günther commits suicide by self-immolation.
Günther carried two 20l milk canisters filled with petrol and poured them over himself before the altar while 300 people were attending mass. He then spread his arms and let the candles ignite his robe. Two more spare canisters exploded as the floor around the altar was covered in flames.
