Till was abducted and beaten and mutilated before being shot in the head and his body thrown in the Tallahatchie River. Tens of thousands attended Till's funeral or viewed his open casket and images of his mutilated body were published in black-oriented magazines and newspapers. In September 1955 an all-white jury found Carolyn's 24-year-old husband Roy Bryant and his 34-year-old half-brother John William Milam not guilty of Till's kidnapping and murder.

Saturday 17th of September 1983 (x) — Performance artist Danny Devos performs 'Now I am Death the Destroyer of Worlds - 1'.
On the Campo Santo graveyard I dug a grave. After I lay down in it Ross Cannon closed it with earth. While the audience was transported with buses to the next location of the exhibition we moved the grave to the Gele Zaal in Gent.
