At 9am Verlaine went to No. 11 of the Galerie de la Reine to obtain a weapon and ammunition from the gunsmith Montigny. In an English tavern located at No. 7 rue des Chartreux, he conscientiously closed a few glasses of absinthe, before finding Rimbaud at the hotel on rue des Brasseurs, where he exhibited his loaded weapon. Around noon, the two friends went to empty a few chopines at the Maison des Brasseurs located in Grand-Place and then returned to their homes. Rimbaud his decision to leave Verlaine was inevitable. Exasperated by such determination Verlaine locked the door of the room and shot at close range at Rimbaud, whom he injured his left wrist.

Monday 28th of June 1880 (x) — Bushranger, outlaw and gang leader Ned Kelly is captured in a shootout with 30 policemen
Kelly was shot in the left foot, left leg, right hand, left arm and twice in the region of the groin, although no bullet had penetrated his armour. Several members of the Kelly gang were shot dead, committed suicide or died in the building as Superintendent Sadleir decided to set fire to the hotel with permission from the Chief Secretary.
