The dead included Mamah Borthwick Cheney, her two children, John and Martha; gardener David Lindblom; draftsman Emil Brodelle; workman Thomas Brunker; and another workman's son Ernest Weston. Carlton swallowed hydrochloric acid following the attack in an attempt to kill himself. He was nearly lynched on the spot, but was taken to the Dodgeville jail. Carlton died from starvation seven weeks after the attack. (15 August 1914)

Monday 15th of April 1889 (-) — Catholic priest and missionary Father Damiaan dies of leprosy. In January 1936 Damiaan's body was returned to Belgium. He was buried in Leuven. After his beatification in June 1995 the remains of his right hand were returned to Hawaii and re-interred in his original grave on Molokai.
