Frese managed to escape by burning through his bindings with a candle that Bartsch had left burning. His testimony led to the arrest of Bartsch three days later.
Sunday 8th of May 1966 (-) — Victim of Jurgen Bartsch aka Der Kirmesmörder Manfred Graßmann is abducted, sexually assaulted, beaten to death and mutilated by Jürgen Bartsch aka Der Kirmesmörder. Graßmann was abducted from a fair in Essen-Schonnebeck and promised to go find a treasure.
