Darwin had been missing after a trip on the North Sea on 21 March 2002 and declared dead. On 23 July 2008 John and his wife Anne Darwin were both convicted of fraud. John was sentenced to six years and three months in prison.

McCann was Sutcliffe's first deadly victim.
Wednesday 14th of December 1977 (x) — Victim of Peter Sutcliffe aka The Yorkshire Ripper Marilyn Moore is attacked with a hammer by Peter Sutcliffe aka The Yorkshire Ripper.
Moore had been hit eight times with the hammer and had bruises on her hands where she had tried to protect her head. Due to the severity of Moore's injuries the police thought that her description of her suspect might not be reliable.
