Pesce was abducted with her 18-year-old roommate Anita Luchessa. Kemper beheaded Luchessa's and Pesce’s body and kept the heads for a while, eventually disposing them in a ravine. Pesce was found and identified, nothing of Luchessa was ever found.

Simultaneously a 1987 Nissan Atlas refrigeration truck with TNT attached to fifteen oxygen tanks and gas canisters, surrounded with four bags of ammonium nitrate fertiliser was detonated at the United States embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. A group calling itself the 'Liberation Army for Holy Sites' took credit for the bombings.
