Davis often smoked four packs of cigarettes a day as an adult. When told that laryngectomy offered him the best chance of survival Davis replied he would rather keep his voice than have a part of his throat removed; he subsequently was treated with a combination of chemotherapy and radiation. His entire larynx however was ultimately removed during surgery in March 1990. (16 May 1990)

Sunday 2nd of January 1955 (-) — President of Panama José Remón Cantera is fired upon at a race track by an unknown revolutionary commando with sub-machineguns. Remón died in hospital two hours later. Two other men including one of Remón's bodyguards were also killed in the attack.
