Byck shot and killed Maryland Aviation Administration Police officer George Neal Ramsburg before storming aboard Delta Air Lines DC-9 Flight 523 to Atlanta, which he wanted to crash on the White House to kill President Nixon. When pilots Reese Doug Loftin and Fred Jones told him they could not take off until wheel blocks were removed he shot them both. After a standoff with police Byck committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

Sunday 21st of January 1968 (x) — A B-52G Stratofortress carrying four B28FI thermonuclear bombs crashes onto sea ice.
The conventional explosives aboard detonated and the nuclear payload ruptured and dispersed which resulted in radioactive contamination. Six crew members ejected safely but 27-year-old co-pilot Leonard Svitenko who did not have an ejection seat was killed while trying to bail out.
