Hakamada was interrogated and in August 1966 he was arrested based on his confession and a tiny amount of blood and gasoline found on a pair of pajamas he owned. According to his lawyers, Hakamada was interrogated a total of 264 hours for as many as 16 hours a session over 23 days to obtain the confession. They added that he was denied water or toilet breaks during the interrogation. "I could do nothing but crouch down on the floor trying to keep from defecating,"Hakamada later told his sister. Monday 15th of August 1977 (x) — Sicherheitspolizei commander Herbert Kappler escapes from a prison hopital. Kappler was diagnosed with terminal cancer. His wife and qualified nurse Anneliese carried him out in a large suitcase (he weighed about 47 kg at the time) and drove him straight to Germany in a red Fiat automobile. Six months after his escape Kappler died at home.
