There were belated reports of a UFO sighting in Australia on the night of Valentich's disappearance. However, the Department of Transport was sceptical a UFO was behind Valentich's disappearance. According to his father Guido, Valentich was an ardent believer in UFOs and had been worried about being attacked by them.

Friday 12th of February 1999 (x) — Serial killer and cannibal Dorángel Vargas is arrested when 8 bodies are found on a piece of wasteland near his shack.
An inspection of the shack Vargas was living on near the area revealed several vessels containing human flesh and viscera prepared for consumption, along with three human heads and several feet and hands. Vargas confessed to having killed and eaten at least 10 men over a period of two years.
