On the location where the so-called ‘Strangler of the Left Bank’ committed a murder, I was hanging upside down between four trees. To my arms and legs I tied small hatchets and I pulled a plastic bag over my head. I hung there as long as I could. The performance was inspired by an ever recurring nightmare by the ‘Strangler’, with whom I kept an intense correspondence for several years.

LaVey was taken to St. Mary's, a Catholic hospital, because it was the closest available. For reasons open to speculation the time and date of his death was incorrectly (by two days) listed as the morning of Halloween on his death certificate.
