Sunday 26th of November 1933 (-) — Kidnapper and murderer Thomas Thurmond is lynched with his accomplice John Maurice Holmes by a raging mob of 5.000 to 15.000 men, women and children Thurmond and Holmes had kidnapped and killed Brooke Hart on 9 November but continued to send ransom notes to his family, owners of Harts Department Store. Governor James 'Sunny Jim' Rolph praised the action, stating that California had sent a message to future kidnappers and promised to pardon anyone involved in the lynching.
