Friday 18th of September 1868 (-) — Horse thief and murderer Melvin Baughn is executed by hanging. Baughn's execution was conducted inside of a canvass enclosure in front of the jail in Seneca. A rope was stretched on stakes about twenty feet from the enclosure and twenty guards armed with muskets and bayonets were stationed on the outside of the rope to keep back the crowd.
