Thursday 14th of October 1943 (x) — About 300 of 600 prisoners led by Soviet-Jewish POW Alexander Pechersky attempt to escape.
They killed 11 German SS officers, overpowered the camp guards and seized the armory. 158 escapees we killed by the guards or in the minefield surrounding the camp. A further 107 were killed either by the SS, Wehrmacht, or Orpo police units pursuing the escapees.
