Saturday 11th of August 1956 (-) — Abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollock dies in a single-car crash in his Oldsmobile convertible while driving under the influence of alcohol. Edith Metzger was also killed in the accident. Artist and Pollock's mistress Ruth Kligman survived.
