21-year-old revolutionary thief Mario Roymans aka Tijl van Limburg steals Johannes Vermeer's 'De Liefdesbrief' and claims a ransom of 200 million Belgian Franks to give to Bengal Refugees in Paleis voor Schone Kunsten, Brussel, Brabant, Belgium. On 6 October 1971 Roymans made his demands by telephone to the National Radio BRT from a gas station in Hasselt. Overheard by the owner he was arrested in a cow barn shortly after. Roymans was sentenced to two years imprisonment. |
