In August 1998 Basso was the ringleader of a gang who tortured and beat 59-year-old mentally retarded Louis 'Buddy' Musso to death with baseball bats for his life insurance money. Since Texas no longer served last meal requests on death row at the time, Basso ate regular prison fare of baked chicken, fish, boiled eggs, carrots, green beans, and sliced bread.

Florence Genevieve Polillo is found killed and dismembered by unidentified serial killer Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run aka Cleveland Torso Murderer at the age of 41 in 2325 East 20th Street, Cleveland, Ohio, United States.

Some other parts of Polillo's body were found near 1419 Orange Avenue on 7 February. Her head was never recovered.
