Within days a total of 3.300 animals, mostly poultry and rabbits, were found dead. 1.600 people of all ages had been examined and 447 were found to suffer from skin lesions or chloracne.

Mike Michele Pepitone is attacked by serial killer The Axeman of New Orleans at the age of 36 in South Scott and Ulloa Streets, Mid-City, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States.

Pepitone's head had been bashed 18 times with at least one weapon. He was rushed to Charity Hospital but within two hours he was pronounced dead. Pepitone was the twelfth and last known victim of The Axeman of New Orleans.
