Seven army ammunition trucks loaded with 1053 boxes of dynamite parked in an old railway station exploded in the early hours of the morning, destroying 41 blocks and leaving a crater 50 meters wide and 25 meters deep. The blast destroyed buildings, homes and existing businesses and killed about 4.000 people and injuring another 12.000. The cause of the explosion is unknown.

134 Die in USS Forrestal aircraft carrier fire in Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam. An electrical anomaly caused a Zuni rocket on a F-4B Phantom to fire, striking an external fuel tank of an A-4 Skyhawk. The flammable jet fuel spilled across the flight deck, ignited and triggered a chain-reaction of explosions that killed 134 sailors and injured 161.
