Bruce was booked for violation of Section 205 of the Police Code (“depicting or distributing obscene matter for the sake of prurient appeal”). Bruce made bail and was back at the Jazz Workshop for the second show that same night, where he related his arrest and booking to a standing-room audience. (4 October 1961)

Monday 18th of September 1961 (-) — Second Secretary-General of the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld dies in a Douglas DC-6B plane crash. Hammarskjöld and fifteen others perished in the crash. The circumstances of the incident are still not clear. There is some recent evidence that suggest the plane was shot down.
