Philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero is assassinated by Centurion Herennius at the age of 63 in Formia, Lazio, Italy.

Cicero's last words are said to have been, "There is nothing proper about what you are doing, soldier, but do try to kill me properly." On Marcus Antonius' instructions his hands, which had penned the Philippics against him, were cut off as well as his head. Marcus Antonius' wife Fulvia took Cicero's head, pulled out his tongue, and jabbed it repeatedly with her hairpin in final revenge against his power of speech.

Pearl Harbour was attacked by 353 Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers. There were simultaneous Japanese attacks on the U.S.-held Philippines and on the British Empire in Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.Four battleships and two other ships sunk, three battleships, three cruisers, three destroyers and three other ships were damaged, 188 aircraft were destroyed and 159 damaged, 2402 were killed and 1247 wounded. The Japanese had four midget submarines sunk and one grounded, 29 aircraft destroyed, 64 killed and one captured.

Brooks was the first person in the United States to be executed using lethal injection by a mixture of Sodium Thipental aka Thruth Drug, Pancuronum Bromide and Potassium Chloride. Brooks' last meal request was for a T-bone steak, french fries, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, biscuits, peach cobbler and iced tea.

Hatcher hung himself with a piece of electrical wire in Unit 5C, Cell 213.

Mass murderer David Augustus Burke shoots five people including the two pilots aboard British Aerospace 146-200A Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 1771 before shooting himself at the age of 35 in Cayucos, California, United States.

All 43 passengers and crew aboard the plane died. Burke's main target was his ex-manager Ray Thomson. After boarding the plane Burke wrote a message on an airsickness bag reading: "Hi Ray. I think it's sort of ironical that we end up like this. I asked for some leniency for my family. Remember? Well, I got none and you'll get none."
